Breeding Program
Due to the great competence in the world of fruit and also because of the actual market necessities in reference to new varieties in stone fruit adapted to final consumer preferences, research is necessary and breeding program in fruit trees with the purpose of achieving varieties adapted to these requirements.
For that reason Provedo has been involved for several years in a breeding program in order to improve the quality of their products.
The company has got five laboratories in Extremadura which focuses on the process of testing fruit, embryo recovery and after harvest areas. In Logroño there are two laboratories for wine research and virology testing.
Provedo also has several seedlings, research and finished plants pre-selection farms all over Spain as well as in different countries such as Chile, South Africa, Turkey, Tunisia and France.
By using a natural method of Controlled Hybridization, more than 60.000 plants, each one with a different fruit, have been grown from over 1 million pollinated flowers. Afterwards, the plants are cultivated on farms for agronomic studies: vigor measurements, floriferousness, setting, fruit production, pests and diseases sensibility.
